The Police in Bauchi State have intercepted a trailer suspected of carrying diverted goods.
It was confirmed that over 1,000 bags of 25kg iodized salt valued at over N10 million were loaded in the trailer.
The Spokesman of the State Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, disclosed that the interception occurred during a stop-and-search operation in Alkeleri, following credible intelligence.
The trailer, with registration number BAG 283 XF, was stopped on April 30, 2025. Though the driver fled, two conductors—20-year-old Sadik Jidda from Borno State and 19-year-old Ibrahim Ahmad from Kaduna State—were arrested on the spot.
"Initial investigations show the suspects were en route Alkeleri under the instruction of the fleeing driver. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and unravel the full details of the diversion," Wakil stated.
In a separate operation the same day, police operatives arrested a 28-year-old Nigerien, Jibrin Ali, for impersonating military personnel in the Yankari Game Reserve, an area notorious for bandit activity.
He was arrested by a patrol team, supported by local security outfits, after he resisted arrest and failed to explain his suspicious presence in the forest.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that both cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for in-depth investigation.
He commended the officers for their vigilance reassuring the public of the Command's commitment to community safety.
