A demand for an upward review of retirement age topped demands as Nigerian workers joined their counterparts in the world to celebrate 2025 May Day.
They are pushing for a review of retirement age for all categories of civil servants.
National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made the demand during the May Day celebration in Eagle Square, Abuja, on Thursday.
“It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants,” the labour leader said.
He was of the belief that equal treatment across all categories of civil servants would promote fairness, boost morale, and enhance efficiency in the public sector.
Meanwhile, reports across the country show that workers marked this year's May Day in despair amid biting hardship.
In some states, the traditional funfair was missing, while others witnessed low turnout of workers.
